Yahoo decides it can compete with Google after all

SEARCH OUFIT, Yahoo, has backed down on a statement made by its top officers that the company was conceding its number one spot to Google.

Susan Decker, Yahoo's chief financial officer, had been quoted in a piece by Bloomberg as saying that she didn’t think that Yahoo was going to gain a lot of share from Google.

The comments followed others by Yahoo Chairman Terry Semel who admitted to hacks at Associated Press that Google had done a better job.

However a new bogged response penned by Yahoo vice presidents Qi Lu, and Eckart Walther seemed to be disagreeing with the two senior officers.

They say that the comments were "just plain wrong".

The pair seek to defend the technology that Yahoo uses and the employees who are working on it. They say it is still early days in the Internet search technology wars and the company is in it for the long haul.

And, with Google now beginning to act up, why should they not be?
